The devastating landslide and sinking of mountains took place in Pernote village (Ramban district) Jammu and Kashmir. The mountains areas are highly vulnerable to natural disasters, where development over the years has compounded the problem by upsetting the ecological balance of various physical processes.Mountains are exposed to multitudinous threats that range from climate change to direct habitat degradation by human activity.As a result of which about 60 houses got damaged. Out of these, 30 houses are completely damaged. Mercifully, no loss of life.
Over 500 evacuated (In last 4 days) as houses damaged due to land sinking in village Pernote, Ramban, J&K
4 transmission towers and a power receiving station were also damaged,
24×7 control room, health camp and community kitchen have been set up for affected people.
Sustainable development needed in such areas.
Its high time now Grow more trees and increase afforestation activities.
