Samadhi of the Rani of Raja Suchet Singh: A Melancholy Memorial

Lying in the shadow of the Ramnagar Fort, is the Samadhi of the Rani of Raja Suchet Singh, brother of the Founder of the State of Jammu Kashmir, Maharaja Gulab Singh.

The Rani of Raja Suchet Singh performed Sati after he was murdered in the Lahore Court, in March 1844.

The Samadhi which is revered by locals, has a Central Shrine, a Parakrima Path, Tulsi in the courtyard, floral motifs and murals depicting ascetics and Krishna Leela. One of the central mural shows Raja Suchet Singh holding Court.

The Samadhi was built by Raja Suchet Singh’s nephew Raja Ranbeer Singh.
